Orlando Pirates to sign an experienced defender and a top striker in January

Siya sources close to Orlando Pirates confirmed that the Soweto giants will look to land the services of an experienced defender and a prolific striker during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Buccaneers have struggled to score goals since the departure of Zimbabwean hitman Tendai Ndoro earlier in August. According to sources a striker and a defender remain at the top of the list for the Buccaneers.

Furthermore, sources have also revealed that Pirates have already found their targeted striker and have begun the process of bringing the player over to Parktown.

“The team has been in talks with the relevant club in securing the player who will assist the current strikers in scoring the goals needed,” said the source.

“There was a big gap left by Tendai when he left the club and even though the likes of Lyle Foster and Justin Shonga have been brought in to add depth, a more experienced striker who is familiar with the PSL was needed to help the team achieve its ambitions,” added the source.

Soccer Laduma reported earlier that the Soweto giants were reportedly keeping close tabs on Moeketsi Sekola who is currently with Chippa United on a deal from Highlands Park.  Another name mentioned is that of Cuthbert Malajila who has fallen down the pecking order in Pitso Mosimane’s Mamelodi Sundowns team.

Pirates are also reportedly in the race for Colombian international Leonardo Castro who is being courted by several other clubs including Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits.

Meanwhile, the crew reported that Bidvest Wits skipper and Bafana Bafana international Thulani Hlatshwayo could be the player the Bucs are eying to solidify their defensive structures.
