Mozambican legend Helder ‘Mano-Mano’ Muianga believes Mamelodi Sundowns target Luis Miquissone can definitely play in the PSL as he has a similar style to Khama Billiat.
Miquissone has been identified by Sundowns as Billiat looks to be on the way out of Chloorkop, judging by recent comments from coach Pitso Mosimane.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation in Mozambique since shining at the COSAFA Cup two years ago and closed off the just-ended season in the neighbouring country as a league winner with HCB Songo.
“Miquissone is short and plays in a similar style to Khama Billiat though Khama is more clinical with his finishing,” Mano-Mano tells our source from Maputo.
“Khama is better quality when it comes to finishing but Miquissone is very quick as well, he goes past people depending on what position he plays. Last season he was the top goal scorer here in Mozambique. He was every effective playing for Songo last season. Songo didn’t win the league last year, they finished second. This year they won the league but he wasn’t the top goal scorer,” says the former Jomo Cosmos, Manning Rangers and Black Leopards defender.
Miquissone is already well known in the PSL with Cosmos having shown interest two years ago, while BidVest Wits, Cape Town City and Platinum Stars have all had a chance to go for him.
“I came with Miquissone to Wits but Gavin Hunt didn’t have much time because when we arrived there he was immediately called back for camp with the national team. So we kept on postponing and postponing the trials after that. However, Jose Ferreira [Wits CEO] knows about him so Miquissone was supposed to go to Wits. John Comitis [Cape Town City boss] wanted to sign him at the end of last season when Songo was in South Africa in camp before they played Platinum Stars [in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup]. Platinum Stars showed interest but Cavin Johnson had already targeted another boy called Kambala who is a defensive midfielder. I don’t know what eventually happened in the end.
“Tico-Tico already spoke to Pitso Mosimane about Miquissone but the trouble was that Pitso was busy with the Champions League at that time and so he didn’t have the time to look at him. Miquissone is a good player who I believe can fit in the PSL because of his pace and skill. Plus he is a very disciplined boy. I think he can make it considering he has a similar style to Khama Billiat. What I know about Sundowns is that they have a big squad and they have quality so it will be a huge challenge for him,” he explains.
