A FIFA hearing will take place next month to determine whether Erick Mathoho will face any further ban following his red card against Cape Verde this month.
Mathoho was named in Stuart Baxter’s side for the clash with Burkina Faso in a couple of weeks, although that is dependant on what is decided regarding his suspension after his red card has been studied at the hearing.
The defender receives an automatic one-game ban for the red after kicking an opponent, though that could be extended due to the fact that his petulant act took place off the field and seemingly with no intention of winning the ball.
Stuart Baxter and his side are set to face their Burkinabe counterparts at FNB Stadium on October 7th, and there is also set to be an international friendly taking place, although the Englishman may have to find a replacement for ‘Tower’ depending on what happens when FIFA review the incident.
It remains to be seen who Baxter has in mind should Mathoho not be available.
