Cape Town City FC knocked out of the Telkom Knockout

Polokwane City secured their spot in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals after beating Ajax Cape Town 4-3 on penalties at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Rodney Ramagalela was lively down the right wing in the first 10 minutes of the half, having caused a lot of problems for the Urban Warriors defence.

Rise and Shine were penetrating the visitors with their quick attacking game after half-an-hour through the wings, although they failed to create a clear-cut chance.

Prince Nxumalo was denied by George Chigova with a headed effort five minutes before the interval with the visitors ending the half strongly after creating a flurry of chances.

The match opened up 10 minutes into the second half with both goalkeepers Chigova and Jody February being kept busy.

The Urban Warriors were in control after 75 minutes with the visitors looking to capitalise on counter-attacks.

The nerves started to enter into both set of players’ minds as the extra time was looming large.

The closing minutes were sapped by substitutions and the match went into extra time.

The first half of extra time was tentative with both sides not willing to commit many men forward.

Polokwane dominated the second 15 minutes, but the match went into penalties, where Bernard Molekwa’s charges triumphed 4-3.
