Supersport United are currently one of the candidates to lift the Absa Premiership come end of the season. The team has done well so far and collected enough points to challenge for the title. In their road to success the team has managed to assemble a team suitable to lift trophies in South African football. They are also participating in the CAF Confederations Cup following their Nedbank triumph against Orlando Pirates last season at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The team has managed to get Mandla Masango on loan from his Denmark team. Mandla comes with a lot of experience having played in Denmark and also for Bafana Bafana not forgetting that he also won the league title with Chiefs a few seasons ago. He has worked very hard under Stuart Baxter at Chiefs and feels honoured to be playing under him again at Supersport United.
The arrival of Mandla Masango means that Thuso Phala will get limited game time at the team or else he should play much better than Masango and cement himself a starting eleven. If Phala is doing well for the team it means that Masango will have to wait for his chance to come or else challenge for other positions in the team full of stars.
Competition for a position is healthy for any football team and it shows how competitive the team is. No one is guaranteed a starting eleven at Supersport starting from goalkeepers. The team is selected according to performances and rotated accordingly if players are performing equally like they are currently doing at Supersport United.
Thuso Phala has been doing well for the team over the past seasons and has cemented his spot in the team until the arrival of Masango. He has also played football at the highest level and has a lot of experience as he also played for the national team Bafana Bafana. Both Mandla and Phala are equal when it comes to comparisons and the best player will be determined on the field of play.
Masango has scored brace during the week in a game against Maritzburg United and that means he is on the right track to make sure he is in the next starting eleven. His stay at the team will be short as he has to return to Denmark come end of the current season. This means Thuso Phala will be without competition if Mandla returns to Denmark. Hopefully Supersport United will be able to negotiate a permanent deal for Masango come next season.
Mandla Masango’s current form means he is on the right track to secure his Bafana selection for the world cup qualifiers. He was very worried when he was not playing in Denmark due to a few contractual problems he encountered there. He is now playing football again and looks fit to be selected for Bafana in their next fixture.
On the other hand Thuso Phala has tried his best but had no luck in being selected for the Bafana Bafana team under Shakes Mashaba. With the current changes in the technical team, Phala would stand a good chance of being selected again if he performs and score goals for Supersport United.
The two experienced players are battling it out for one spot in the Supersport team.
