Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Percy Tau says they will not repeat the mistakes of last season, when they surrendered their Absa Premiership title to Bidvest Wits.
Sundowns finished second on the league standings last season, just three points behind the Clever Boys despite going all the way to the CAF Champions League final as well as competing in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Sundowns drew four of their last five matches in the previous campaign, three of which were at home against Platinum Stars, Baroka FC and Maritzburg United. Those results played a big part in handing Wits their first ever title.
Now heading into the final 10 matches of the current campaign, Sundowns have a five-point lead at the summit and Tau says they will be a lot smarter this time round to ensure they get the job done.
“With the 10 games left, I think we are getting better. We don’t want to repeat mistakes. I am just happy that everyone is contributing and we are sharing the load because as a team it’s easy to share the load,” the in-form Tau said, as he stressed the importance of not looking too far ahead at this stage.
“We will only look at the league as ours when there’s two games to go. Right now we are focusing on every game we play because we know that last season did not end well. We had our problems and our difficulties, so we know what to do better this season.”
He added: “The squad we have is good, we have a lot of quality and we won’t repeat the same mistakes. At Sundowns we don’t repeat mistakes. We will be more smarter and we are more experienced to handle the situation.”
Sundowns will get some time to rest this week before taking on Luc Eymael’s unpredictable Free State Stars next Wednesday.
