For the past two years Mamelodi Sundowns’ Dennis Onyango has dominated the awards list for keepers in South African football
However Kaizer Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune is not even in the top three nominations. Much has changed since the Bafana Bafana no.1 was the leading stopper in the league.
What’s gone wrong for Khune? Or is it just temporary? Is this the changing of the guard in South Africa? Fellow Bafana Bafana keeper Shu-aib Walters is nominated ahead of Khune.
And, look… there’s also Darren Keet. It’s a matter for Khune to ponder and the inspirational keeper will no doubt come out to prove that he’s still to be reckoned with next season!
Otherwise, Amakhosi reserve keeper Brilliant Khuzwayo is ready to step up after his 2016-17 season was ruined by injury.
