Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has earned more recognition from his employers for the impressive work he is doing at the Soweto giants.
Having managed to guide the team to remarkable results against rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in successive matches, Komphela has impressed his employers, with a special mention of his work ethic.
The Chiefs mentor has been under immense strain at the club for several months. While he has managed to stay on in his role as the head coach of the side for the first two years of his three-year contract, Komphela has been under pressure due to a lack of consistent results and the failure to win silverware.
Following Chiefs’ 2-1 win over Sundowns last week, as well as the 0-0 draw against Pirates, the coach received some relief as he prepared the team for the Telkom Knockout.
He then went on to beat Amazulu by 3 – 0 in the last 16 of the Telkom Knockout Cup.
The recent results seem to have gone a long way in strengthening the relationship between Komphela and his employers at Naturena. According to the sources, the club bosses have been most captivated with Komphela’s work ethic and attitude, suggesting that the coach’s tenacity is what turned their fortunes around.
