Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper in talks to stay at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung says they are in talks to keep shot stopper Brilliant Khuzwayo at the club as his contract is set to come to an end at the end of the season.

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has expressed an interest in signing the goalkeeper but Motaung says they are yet to receive offers for the former AmaZulu players.

Competition for Khuzwayo has been tough, having to go up against Bafana Bafana’s number one goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

Khuzwayo, who has to wait for Khune to either get injured or suspended to at least get some time on the pitch, has only played two games this season.

“For Brilliant Khuzwayo we have not received any offer. We are engaging the player and his agent at the moment, in terms of an extention of his contract. That is if both parties agree, but it’s negotiations. It will take both parties to agree,” Motaung said.

“We’ve played a big role in developing Brilliant. It’s a pity that the goalkeeping position is not like midfield or an in-field player position. We are proud that Brilliant has grown to be confident enough to take the lead, but competition is still there for him. Rotation of goalkeepers is difficult and I think with a number one goalkeeper like Khune it becomes very difficult. He has to stand his ground against Itu and grow and develop as a goalkeeper.”

While Chiefs have brought in the likes of Leonardo Castro, Kabelo Mahlasela and Siphelele Ntshangase during the transfer window, there are players who will leave the club this month.

The likes of William Twala and Keagan Buchanan are linked with departures. Motaung, though, did not want to say which players are heading out.

“We have engaged some clubs for players which we feel are not getting game time. I won’t mention names at the moment. It will only be fair to mention names once we have engaged the players and we have confirmed with the clubs. But our motto is not to keep players who are not getting game time,” Motaung said.
