The Orlando Pirates vice-captain has impressed the South African football fans with his brilliance as a goalkeeper in a Pirates game against Bidvest Wits were Jackson Mabokgwane was shown a red card and the team has already made all their substitutions.
Jele stepped in as a goalkeeper and did very well with 8 minutes to fulltime plus 4 additional minutes. He showed confidence that has been lacking from all Pirates goalkeepers since the passing away of Senzo Meyiwa a few years ago. Happy did well in 12 minutes he played as a goalkeeper for the team and fans were very impressed by his display in goals for their team.
The team has conceded a lot of poor goals due to their goalkeepers making huge mistakes. All their goalkeepers have blundered previously and currently out of 3 goalkeepers there is not even one goalkeeper who was confident before Jele stepped in against Wits and controlled the goal area.
The likes of Felipe Ovono concede some amateurish goals in very important matches and some of the goals scored against him led the team not to lift any trophy with him in goals. He has since been on the sidelines and there came Brighton Mhlongo who is also confused.
Mhlongo started very well as he has been around for a long time as understudy to the late Senzo Meyiwa but later on showed cracks which are not good for a team of Pirates’ standard. He has conceded a lot of poor goals that according to fans could not go past Happy Jele.
Jackson Mabokgwane did the same as Mhlongo and Ovono while supporters were thinking he might be the answer. The recent mistake against Celtic where he went for the ball and did not touch it until it went in was a sign that Pirates were in trouble between the sticks.
Siyabonga Mpontshane also came in and there was no difference as the team conceded the same kind of goals. He tried his best but he is simply not good enough to stand in the shoes left by one of the best goalkeepers in the continent. It seems the death of Senzo robbed Pirates of a goalkeeper who was talented to help the team win trophies as since his death the team has not won a single trophy.
Now fans have identified a true goalkeeper with confidence and skills. Happy Jele is the only trusted goalkeeper by Pirates fans so far and the defender was so confident of himself when he took the gloves from Jackson. He showed the country that he can do well as a goalkeeper too.
Jele received a lot of applauses from fans around the stadium and even Bidvest players went on to him and congratulated him for a job well done. He has also received a lot of messages from fans around the country regarding the possibility of him moving permanently to the goals.
Itumeleng Khune went on to say that Jele is the next Mzansi’s number one after him. Happy Jele is the only Pirates goalkeeper who has not conceded a goal so far and fans are asking for continuity as they don’t trust all the goalkeepers in the Pirates team.
Maybe the young Nigerian Emmanuel Daniel could rescue the team going forward.
