The future of Bidvest Wits attacker, James Keene, remains up in the air with his contract at the club set to expire in just over seven months’ time.
Keene has scored 14 goals from 23 starts for the club since arriving from Sweden last year, with four in four cup games this season helping Wits reach the Telkom Knockout final. They haven’t lost a single game in which he’s scored since he joined.
Wits exercised a one-year option on the 31-year-old at the end of last season as they looked to make sure he stuck around for the 2017/18 campaign, although have no further option once the current campaign comes to an end.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, there are doubts as to whether the 31-year-old will remain a Clever Boy next season, with no agreement currently in place and talks over a new deal not yet underway.
Wits may look to open up talks with Keene in the coming weeks to try and avoid losing him for free, although given his scoring record since arriving in South Africa, it is unlikely that Keene will be short of offers should he become available as a free agent.
