Bidvest Wits FC to hand Orlando Pirates their first loss of the season

Orlando Pirates are finalising their preparations for their upcoming match against Bidvest Wits.

The Buccaneers will visit the Bidvest Stadium for their Absa Premiership match against The Students on Saturday. Wits beat Pirates in both their matches in the league last season, as Gavin Hunt and his team went on to win the title at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

The first round match was the 1-2 loss for Bucs at the Orlando Stadium, with both goals for Wits scored by Gabadinho Mhango, while Happy Jele netted for the Soweto giants.

The second round match at the Bidvest Stadium was the 0-1 loss for Bucs. On current form, Pirates are the favourites for this weekend’s match. Bucs have not lost a single match from the five they have played so far this season, while Wits have lost three from their five.

Former Pirates defender, Lucas Tlhomelang, is pleased for the team’s progress so far this season under Coach Milutin Sredojevic.

“The Buccaneers have improved a lot from the team they were last season. There are fresh legs (new players) in the team and that has resulted into a lot of action taking place in the team. The changes that have been made from the technical team to the players are working. The structure is there and it is working. I think now there is a chance to win trophies again, after a long time. There is a lot of competition in the team as there are no players owning positions. I know that we (Pirates) are still lacking upfront, but we are doing well. So far, so good,” the former defender told the our source.
