Bafana Bafana midfielder Phakamani Mahlambi has had his first taste of silverware in Egypt after Al Ahly lifted the Egypt Super Cup on Friday.
The Red Devils picked up their 10th Super Cup in their history after edging Al Masry with a 1-0 scoreline in extra-time at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Though he never played any part in the encounter and was left out of the matchday squad, Mahlambi collected a winner’s medal and celebrated with the team on the pitch after the final whistle.
The 20-year-old also posed for a photo with the trophy in the changeroom, posting it on his official Instagram account with the caption, “1st one”.
Mahlambi has yet to feature for his club side this year, having last started in their Egyptian Premier League clash against Petrojet on December 29 and coming off after 57 minutes.
The former Bidvest Wits winger has been used sparingly under coach Hossam El Badry thus far, making just two starts and five substitute appearances since his move in September last year.
With the CAF Champions League campaign set to start next month, Mahlambi could earn more regular game-time as Al Ahly’s fixture schedule grows tighter.
